Scott #298 Mint NH

Scott # 298 issued May 1st, 1901.  This is a mint never hinged hinged 8 cent lilac, purplish or claret and black stamp from the Pan American series depicting the Canal Locks at Sault De Ste Marie and printed by the National Bank Note Company.  This stamp has the original gum and impressions in the gum from the perforations of other stamps.  This is usually caused by stacking and storing stamps after printing and then the gum application.  This stamp's centering is high and slightly to the right but the image is crisp and clean and the color is excellent.  This is a very nice stamp!
